My recent trip to Richmond was nothing short of a fantastic experience, thanks to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. Covering a round trip of 340 miles from Raleigh, the journey was primarily smooth and uneventful, with FSD performing flawlessly for the most part.
The route was straightforward, and I was excited to give the FSD a thorough test. As I set off, the car handled lane changes, merges, and navigation with remarkable precision, making the drive both relaxing and enjoyable.
However, there was one notable exception during the trip. While passing an accident in a slow traffic situation, the scenario became quite challenging. Traffic had funneled into a single line, and somehow, the FSD system attempted to merge the car to the left. This unexpected maneuver made it very difficult to merge back into the correct lane. At that moment, I had to take over control to navigate the situation safely.
Despite this one incident, the overall performance of Tesla’s FSD was impressive. The technology has undoubtedly advanced, providing a glimpse into the future of autonomous driving. I look forward to seeing further improvements and refinements in the system, making such minor hiccups a thing of the past. All in all, it was a remarkable journey that highlighted both the promise and the current limitations of self-driving technology.
