There are approximately 200,000 gas stations in the United States, making it easy for drivers to refuel their vehicles almost anywhere. Gas stations are ubiquitous, often found at nearly every street corner, providing a sense of security for gasoline vehicle owners. In stark contrast, there are only about 17,000 Tesla Supercharging stations across the country. This significant disparity in the number of refueling versus charging stations highlights one of the primary sources of EV charging anxiety.

Given that EV charging infrastructure is still in its developmental stages, it is less convenient to recharge an EV compared to refueling a traditional gasoline vehicle. The limited number of charging stations can make it challenging for EV owners to find a charging point, especially in remote or less populated areas.

The Importance of Home Charging

To mitigate the challenges associated with finding public charging stations, it is crucial for potential EV owners to have a home charging setup. Home chargers provide a convenient and reliable means of recharging an EV overnight, ensuring that the vehicle is ready for daily use. Investing in a home charger can significantly reduce the anxiety associated with the availability of public charging stations.

Planning Ahead

Transitioning from a gas car to an EV is not suitable for everyone, especially at the current stage of EV infrastructure development. It requires individuals with a strong planning mindset, as they need to consider the availability of charging stations on their routes and plan their trips accordingly. This level of foresight is essential to avoid running out of charge in an inconvenient location.

For individuals with a tendency to procrastinate or those who prefer a more spontaneous lifestyle, the current state of EV infrastructure may not be ideal.
